How to Make a Sourdough Starter

A sourdough starter is a mix of flour and water that has fermented and can be used to rise baked goods.

What is it?

Just two ingredients:  - Flour - Water

- Digital Scale - Glass Bowl or Jar - Light Towel

The best way to "feed" a sourdough starter is with equal parts starter, flour and water. Measured out in grams.

How to Make

Day 1

Measure out 100 grams of flour and 100 grams of water. Mix to combine. Cover with a towel and rest.

How to Make

Day 2-3

After 24 hours, discard half the mix and then feed equal parts flour and water. Mix and rest again.

How to Make

Day 4-10

Switch to two feedings a day. Discarding half each time.

Doubled in Size

If your starter doubles in size 6-8 hours after feeding it is ready to make bread! Get my recipe below.
