Glass flip lock bottle with a blueberry simple syrup and cup of fresh blueberries.

One of my favorite parts of summer is growing homegrown blueberries. They are easy to grow and give us fresh berries all summer long.

This recipe is straight from my garden. We make this simple syrup to flavor things like lemonade, italian sodas and other summer cocktails.

It's really easy to make and will keep in the refrigerator for about a month.

If you like the idea of making flavored simple syrups be sure to check out my other flavors: rhubarb simple syrup, strawberry simple syrup or a mint simple syrup

    🫐Ingredients

A cup of water, sugar, blueberries and a fresh lemon.

Simple syrup is made with a 1:1 ratio of water and sugar. Then, add in the fresh fruit to infuse it with more flavor.

Blueberries: Fresh or frozen blueberries can be used to make this syrup. We like to use the berries from our blueberry garden.

Lemon Juice: Adding a little bit of fresh lemon juice helps balance out some of the sweetness.

See full information on ingredients and quantities in the recipe card.

    🫕How to Make

Step 2: Add in the blueberries and give a good mix. (Image 1).

Step 3: Bring to a boil and reduce down to a simmer. (Image 2).

Step 4: Simmer on the stove for about 20 minutes or until the berries are broken down and the liquid has reduced down

It should be a slightly thicker consistency. Thicker than water but not quite as thick as maple syrup.

Step 5: Add in the fresh lemon juice.

Step 6: Remove from stove and allow to slightly cool.

Step 7: Take a fine mesh strainer over a bowl and strain the juices out. (Image 3 & 4).

Gently move the berries around so all the liquid gets through.

💡Pro Tip: Do not toss the berries! Add them to a fresh lemonade or on top of pancakes.

Store in a glass container in the refrigerator up to a month.
