This lemonade with mint drink is one of my favorite things to make! With the endless supply of mint my garden provides each summer, I can throw this drink together any time. Learn how to grow your own mint in your garden.
To say it's the perfect summer drink would be an understatement. It's a great way to use all my fresh mint and everyone in the family can't get enough.
Mint just screams summer flavors and pairs so well with lemons. It also goes great with watermelon! Check out my watermelon fruit salad and watermelon limeade recipes.
One thing I have a hard time with when it comes to traditional lemonade recipes is the amount of sugar that is used. Sometimes, it is just too much sugar and can cover up the fresh tartness of the lemons and other flavors. This recipe calls for less sugar and still tastes great!
This homemade mint lemonade recipe is right out of my garden. It's really simple to make and uses tons of fresh mint and lemons.
Enjoy this drink on its own, make it into a fun cocktail or add to a Starbucks medicine ball tea.
Why You will love this minty lemonade:
- Simple to make
- Fresh lemon juice
- Tons of fresh mint leaves
- Refreshing drink perfect for a hot summer day
- Can easily be made into a cocktail
- Double it to make a big batch
Ingredients
Lemons: Use freshly squeezed lemons. Lemonade and lemon concentration will not turn out right and typically have added sugar or sweeteners in them.
Mint: Same with lemons, use fresh mint. Bonus if it's from your garden! My preferred mint is a mojito variety, but all kinds of mint can be used.
Sugar: This recipe calls for light sugar. If you prefer lemonade to be on the sweeter side, just add another ¼ cup.
Salt: This is often left out of lemonade but can make a difference. When salt is added, it can help enhance the flavors of the lemon and mint while bringing out some of the sweetness in the sugar.

How to Make
Make the simple syrup:
First, make the simple syrup. Add the 1 cup water to a small saucepan. Add the sugar and salt. Bring to a light simmer over medium heat just until the sugar dissolves.
Set aside to cool.
Mint Lemon Water:
Start off by chopping the mint. Here are three different ways:
- With a knife
- Mortar and Pestal
- In a blender with 1 cup of the water
The mortar and pestle or blender method will give you the most flavor from your mint.
Take a large pitcher and add in the crushed mint, water, and freshly squeezed lemon juice. Stir well and let sit.
Pour the syrup into the pitcher and give it a good stir with a wooden spoon or spatula.
Cover and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours. The longer the better.
When ready to serve, remove the mint leaves with a slotted spoon or fine mesh strainer.
To serve, fill a tall glass with ice cubes, add additional whole mint leaves if you like, and pour over the lemonade.
Serve with a fresh lemon slice.
If it is too strong of a lemon flavor just add a little water at a time until your desired taste.
Storage
This lemonade will last 5-6 days in the refrigerator when stored in an airtight container. (I put plastic wrap over the top of my pitcher) Just give it a good stir before serving.
Make an even better summer snack and freeze in popsicle molds or sleeves for a frozen mint lemonade popsicle!
Equipment
Large Pitcher: To store the lemonade.
Citrus press: This is an easy way to get all the lemon juice that you can out of your lemons.
Blender or food processor: To crush up the mint.
Small Saucepan: To make the simple syrup.
