Three small glasses filled with watermelon limeade with fresh limes and mint leaves.

If there is one thing my kids could eat everyday in the summer, it's watermelon. We always seem to have so much watermelon on hand that sometimes it's fun to try new ways to enjoy it.

This watermelon limeade is a perfect way to use up all that fresh watermelon and your out of control mint from the garden.

Just toss in a blender, chill and enjoy.

Turn it into a fun adult cocktail with a little tequila for a watermelon margarita or a splash of vodka for a refreshing beverage. You can also have some fun with the kids and add it to popsicle molds for a tasty treat.

If you love watermelon you will also enjoy this watermelon, mint and blueberry salad. Its a great side dish to add to your next BBQ.

    Ingredients

One of my favorite things about this recipe is that it calls for no sugar! When I want something chilled and refreshing, the last thing I want is a drink that is too sweet. This limeade is perfectly balanced and full of summer flavors.

This recipe relies on a little bit of salt to help bring out the taste of the watermelon and lime instead of making it overly sweet.

Diced watermelon in a batter bowl, limes, mint leaves and kosher salt.

    Ingredients needed:

    • Watermelon
    • Lime Juice (Freshly Squeezed)
    • Mint
    • Kosher Salt

    See recipe card for quantities.

    Instructions

Dice up 8 cups of watermelon.

Blender jar with diced watermelon, mint leaves, salt and lime juice being poured in.

In your blender, add the watermelon, mint, salt and pour in the lime juice. If your blender isn't large enough, run in two batches then combine in a pitcher.

    Blender running with watermelon.

Run on medium speed until completely smooth.

Pour into a pitcher and chill for a few hours. Pour over ice and serve with some mint and lime garnish.

Three old fashioned glasses with a watermelon limeade, fresh slices of lime and mint leaves as garnish.

Hint: Chilling is so important. If the drink is room temp, it will melt the ice quicker and water it down. If it is chilled before serving, not only does it give the salt more time to intensify the flavors but it keeps it from getting too watered down.

    Variations

This drink can be made in different ways depending on how you want to serve it. Make a fun cocktail for an adult summer gathering or freeze for a fun summer snack for the kids.

    • Watermelon Margarita - Serve with crushed ice and 1 oz of tequila.
    • Watermelon Limeade Popsicles - Add to a popsicle mold to make a fun summer snack.

    Equipment

    • Blender - If your in the market for a high power blender I highly recommend a BlendTec. It has been my go to for the last 4 years.
    • Citrus Juicer - I use both a press and a juicer. A press is so easy to use but a juicer with an attached measuring cup is nice if needing a certain amount of citrus juice.

    Storage

This drink will keep in the fridge in an air tight container for 2-3 days. It will start to separate so give it a good mix right before serving.

It also holds up well to freezing! Add in ice cube trays or into popsicle molds for a fun frozen summer snack.

Tart pan with three old fashioned glasses filled with watermelon limeade, fresh mint and lime slices.
