What is it about sourdough that makes it perfect to use for breakfast? Maybe because it's so easy to incorporate into things like pancakes and waffles? Or maybe because we feed our starters in the morning so it's always on our minds?

Whatever the reason, there is no doubt that we have endless ideas for incorporating our beloved sourdough starters into our breakfast routine. This powerful ingredient really does make the perfect base for all kinds of dishes!

Don't let the name fool you. Please do not actually discard your starter. It just means it is not active enough to make bread, but can still be added to so many different things. Learn more about what discard actually is and how to use it.

If you are looking for even more ideas, get all my leftover sourdough discard recipes and more.

How to bake with discard: Most of the time, sourdough discard can be used right from the fridge or brought to room temperature. Each recipe should specify if one way or another is preferred.

This list of recipes can be made for lazy weekend breakfasts, Christmas mornings, other special occasions, or even a quick grab-and-go meal.

    Sweet Sourdough Breakfast Recipes

Sourdough recipes that are on the sweeter side. Things that can be served with syrup, powdered sugar, or jam. We are going to start off with the most iconic sourdough breakfast recipe...

    Sourdough Discard Pancakes

These sourdough discard pancakes are so easy to make and do not require the batter to rise overnight. The whole family is going to love these delicious pancakes!

Just mix it up, cook it on a griddle until golden brown, and serve. They truly are the best way to use any extra starter. Top with your favorite toppings and enjoy.

Serve with butter, jam, peanut butter, or make a slice of avocado toast. Or, serve as a side with a plate of scramble eggs or breakfast sausage. Making toast is always a great way to use leftover sourdough bread.
